The Secret Jungle: Unlocking Your Skin Microbiome's Power with Phyaluronic®

The Secret Jungle: Unlocking Your Skin Microbiome's Power with Phyaluronic®

PhycoHealth is proud to announce the exclusive presale launch of our Phyaluronic® BiomeBalance skincare collection, beautifully presented in limited edition silver aluminium packaging. This range is not only a celebration of scientific innovation and holistic skin health — it's also the beginning of a heartfelt mission to support those experiencing skin damage as a result of cancer therapies like chemotherapy and radiation.

Did you realize your skin is home to trillions of microbes—an intricate ecosystem working tirelessly, much like an invisible, bustling jungle or a vibrant garden? This thriving microbial community, your skin microbiome, is essential for protecting against environmental harm, fighting inflammation, and maintaining hydration. Sometimes what we do to our skin can disrupt a healthy microbiome, leading to a spiral of unbalanced skin conditions. When kept in balance through protection and care, this ecosystem keeps your skin glowing and resilient to stressors and supports a gracefully maturing skin.

A major skin microbiome disruption occurs during cancer treatments, particularly chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Beneficial microbes are diminished, hydration is lost, inflammation sets in, and harmful pathogens can invade, leading to skin complications that have nothing to do with the cancer being treated.

This has been the struggle of oncology care nurses for decades, and was brought to our attention some years ago, when researcher Dr. Bora Kim sat in on a talk by our founder, Pia Winberg, who was sharing insights into seaweed molecules and their surprising mimicry of human skin biochemistry. Among them was a molecule we’d worked with for over a decade - without realising its deeper potential - Phyaluronic®acid. Today we know how hydrating and protective of skin Phyaluronic®acid can be, through our wound and gut healing research.

Our scientific studies have uncovered fascinating properties: Phyaluronic® acid communicates directly with skin cells, resists breakdown by enzymes, calms inflammation, and supports beneficial probiotic microbes like Lactobacillus, and plays a role in keeping harmful microorganisms at bay.

While listening to the early stage knowledge, Dr. Bora Kim saw something new. Could this mysterious seaweed polymer be used to help the vulnerable skin of cancer patients recover from harsh treatments? That moment sparked a decade-long scientific friendship between Bora, Pia, and Professor Kate White, and so began the collaboration of researching the background and considering the clinical trials needed to put Phyaluronic® to the test to better manage skin-related side effects from cancer treatment. A creative, cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas followed — the kind that only the serendipity of researchers, from different fields of science, colliding in the corridors can unlock.

Today, on the eve of launching our new skincare range to the broader public, we are releasing a limited edition for pre-sale to our existing and dedicated customer base, where we will contribute 20% of each BiomeBalance product directly to pioneering research at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Medicine and Health with Bora and Kate. That research will focus on healing skin and restoring the microbiome following cancer treatment. With matched funding from government research grants, we aim to raise $40,000 to accelerate this critical work.

By joining our limited-edition launch, you’re not only indulging your skin in first access to new, microbiome-focused formulations with our much loved Phyaluronic® acid—you’re supporting pioneering research aimed at improving the lives of cancer patients facing daunting treatment side effects challenges. Help us cultivate healthier skin, advance critical research, and celebrate the remarkable resilience and potential of your skin microbiome.
